Heel guide: how to choose the right height and shape

How to choose the right heel for dancing

The heel is not just about looks: it determines posture, balance and comfort during the night or the competition. In this guide you'll find the heights and shapes we offer in Wish Dance dance shoes and which dance they're designed for.

The most common heights

  • 5 cm – The most stable. Ideal for beginners, for long rehearsals and for those who want comfort without giving up line.
  • 6 cm – A balance between elegance and control. Suited to salsa, bachata and long social dancing.
  • 7 / 7.5 cm – The most requested height for Latin American and performance: it lengthens the figure while keeping good control.
  • 8 / 8.5 cm – For those with experience who want the maximum aesthetic line in competition or shows.
  • 9 cm and up – Only for experienced dancers, shows and photo shoots.

Heel shapes

  • Flared – Wider base, great stability. Perfect for those who want confidence and for lessons.
  • Stiletto – Sleek, elegant line, requires more control. Typical of Latin and evening shoes.
  • Slim / Flare – In between: slimmer than the flared heel but more stable than the stiletto.
  • Platform – Front platform that reduces the incline of the foot and increases comfort on high heels.

Wish Dance tip

If it's your first dance shoe, start with a 5–6 cm flared heel and go up in height as you gain technique. For advanced Latin, a 7.5 cm stiletto with platform offers line and comfort together. In doubt? See the size guide or write to us: we'll help you choose.
